No Internet for a Year

How does that feel? I don't think most of us are up that challenge so it's best to let someone else do it and we'll see how it affects them.

Paul Miller is an online tech write for The Verge, he works with the internet in many ways.

The video documents his year without the internet and his feelings towards his own personal life and how it has affected him as a person.

I thought the outcome is an interesting insight to a person without access to the internet for a year. I would agree on the thought but I would never live my life without internet again...

3D Printing Firearms?

People might think I'm pretty late to be amused by this technology but damn this is incredible. In this month I've came across two videos discussing 3D printing.

Printing objects with plastic according to 3D design software you will have boundless creations just within your house. Almost everything can be built and print straight off from this printer and in an instant. What's so great about it is that you can forge/design experiment items straight away and customise things to suit yourself. I think within 5-10 years when it becomes a common household hardware it will change the way we interact with products. It will become a threat to many brands. Although it seem beneficial for us, it always have its side effects and threats towards the community.

People have already use the printer to produce firearms thats just as powerful as guns purchase from stores. With new technology there are always lots of unclear laws to control the use. A great example would be the internet and music... It will always serve as a lesson to be revied on whenever a big new invention gets created.

First video talks about the future of 3D printing and it's great potential.

Second video is a documentary on 3D Printed Firearms across America.

Yarrrdbird

Stussy is breaking into the food collaboration, having doing a collab previously with Plan Check restaurant in West Los Angeles the second one was at Hong Kong and I was lucky enough to take part of it. Stussy chose Yardbird for their second food collaboration.

I was there around 12:20am and the first seatings were filled already, we wait for around 40mins before we headed in. The place has two floors, we were at the basement level where the kitchen was so we were able to see some of the preparations. The seatings were pretty jammed as they try to fit as much people as possible, which was a good thing since I prefer the pack, loud and busy environment with people chatting along, laughing and having a good time. The food was great there were highlights such as the Twice Fried Chicken, Popcorn Gizzard, Crispy Ramen Salad, Fried Chicken Fillet and Sweet Potato Gratin... a lot of highlights I know... but the food was great! The portions were definitely enough if not too much. It was a once off menu but I sure hope that they keep the ones I listed above. The staff were all friendly and trying to social with everyone.

It was def a pleasant experience and be sure to check out their regular menu some other time.

Unfortunately the photos I took were taken with my film camera so I will upload them once I get the processed. Meanwhile enjoy this inspiring video they did with OTHERS x HYPEBEAST.

Disney Merges

Disney has always been the industry standard for the animation industry and now they have created a short film with CGI and hand drawings.

Classic Black and White, set in New York a simple love story. Using brush stroke type of drawing and CGI for the 3D effect i really shows where Disney is heading in the future. This type of animation still contains the classic Disney animations also catching up with technology but it separates itself with Pixar and Sony Pictures.

Galleries at Central

I saw advertisements everywhere about Takashi Murakami's Gallery at Central and I asked my friend Ollie to come along. It was hidden on Pedder St's Pedder Building a small narrow entrance and up the lifts we went. It was on the 7th Floor and while other exits on other floors we peeked and saw other galleries. As we went onto 7th Floor it was the GAGOSIAN GALLERY showcasing only Murkami's artworks. The guards were very cautious that we don't stay too close to the originals as we might spit, sneeze onto the masterpieces.

Behind The Vice City

One of my most favourite game of all-time Grand Thief Auto: Vice City.

They just released a behind the scene of the game's design. Including the sketchbook of characters, motion capture, sounds, city renders, vehicle designs and many more. Giving inspirations to many people in different fields.

This incredible insight has just been released for its 10 year anniversary.

Percival Fashion Film

Percival's 2012 Autumn/Winter Fashion Film is trippy.

Lots of pre-production planning with many edits that are planned to work with each other.

I also like their most of their clothes even though most of the inspiration are stolen the styles are still contemporary.

FILMography

FILMography travels and tries to find the shot where the film was filmed.

The photos feels like it's crossing between fantasy and reality, locating your favourite scenes, fandom but it make you realise how some of your fav films might just be filmed at the same spots, stealing shots from other films.

Reasons to Stay in Hong Kong: 002

The next day 3rd November 5:00am I saw another video.

Made by a small crew of passionate people in Malaysia. The other reason why I would wanted to stay in Hong Kong is because of the people. It is a fast paced culture and people react in a faster efficient way. In Australia I have encountered too many talkers, they chill more than they do. They dream and talk about ideas when they've never taken action or the task is far from practical.

After watching the video above I looked into D1 Production's other videos such as è¡€éš,  The Making of Canon 650D TV Commercial and their è¡€éš behind the scenes. All of the crew members are dedicated in their work, full of passion and the video reflects it. It's not an ordinary YouTube quality video but one that is like a micro-film, one that is capable of winning international short film fests.

In my opinion I think there are more people more passionate making a Hong Kong film than an Australian film. Also it is easier to recuit and build a proactive, dedicated and professional team in Hong Kong than Sydney.

Reasons to stay in Hong Kong: 001

Some of you may know I've got a one way ticket to Hong Kong. My mum got the ticket for me so it wasn't by choice I made that decision but it opened a door for me. As I hopefully graduate this year I'm looking for experience, career and opportunities. I think there's opportunities for me in Hong Kong but I'm just not sure what it is yet.

In the pass 3 days I saw videos lead me to believe in staying in HK for my career. Although those things might not be talking about Hong Kong or filmmaking directly, I thought it connects with me and my situation directly. In these posts I am going to write about the three videos to make make me believe in Hong Kong Films.

On Sunday 2nd November around 5:00am I saw a documentary on expats in Korea, Seoul.

Foreigners living in Seoul for an unknown extensive time. This is episode 1 of the series. I watched all three of the released episode til 6am and fell asleep thinking. If I go back to Hong Kong to work I would be more of a foreigner than a local, it would be a great experience to connect back to my roots, restart my life, meet new creatives and film enthusiast. They said Seoul is like a melting pot and Asia is the Europe of our era.

P.S. They shot these episodes with 3 Canon 5D Mark III, incredible.

GTA Inspired film

Grand Thief Auto has been a big influence during my teenage years from GTA III, Vice City, San Andreas, IV and now GTA V is coming soon too :) Heavily film inspired with numerous references such as Pulp Fiction, Scarface, Speed, Casino and many more.

Now it's GTA turn to influence the new age film makers.

Inspired by GTA, Geovorg Karensky makes a crime short of Niko Bellic.

Sites of Hong Kong

A few people have asked me why I would move to film in Hong Kong and not film in Sydney?

There's many reasons actually but this is one of them:

Hong Kong is a beautiful city and it's just as photogenic as NYC with iconic locations, places, structures on every corner. Fantastic neon lights during nighttime for night scene shooting, nice cloudy days for morning shoots. The location itself gives you ideas, inspirations, creativity wherever you look.

I'd also realise that in a place like Sydney you really don't seem to have the thought of crossing paths with interesting characters such as psychos, serial killers, assassins, detectives, gangsters or superpowers. The location is simply not dense enough for others to witness or meet interesting people. We would meet multi-cultural ethnic people but they would seem to have the same lifestyle as we do. Incidents does not seem to happen as often in dense populated areas such as New York, Hong Kong, India, Japan, France where the film industry are richer than Australia. It is also a reason why Australians find it hard to relate to Australian films because even ourselves have not encountered such stories displayed on cinema...

ANYWAY here's a video showing you how videogenic Hong Kong can be.

Brooks x The Royal College of Arts

If anyone is into bicycles, fixies and riding then they must've heard of the great Brooks England company. Specialised in leather seating and quality  bicycle accessories they have dominated the marktet for decades.

One of the great things they are doing is collaborating with the students in The Royal College of Arts they assign the students to come up with Brooks England future products. This is a great way for Brooks to inspire themselves with young creative minds' ideas and also help students to get practical experience as they hope their products be chosen and manufactured.

I wish more companies will collaborate with Arts institutions because I think it will benefit both the company and the students.

Here's a video of the successful process.

How Socks Manufacture?

Never knew making socks could be so complex.

The machines are weird, some things need to be man handled because of its delicacy.

As I've said before the socks game is getting more attention these days, get on it!

Typography Chart

Ever since I was small I always liked typography. Trying to do bubble writing on the school desks, studying the types of typography in the manga. I realised the importance of it once I discovered that Steve Jobs attended a typography course in uni.

As I now have video, film projects with my crew I need to be more aware of typography. the style of font for my titles and logos.

I ran across this handy graph when I was exploring in my inspirational websites.
