Galleries at Central

I saw advertisements everywhere about Takashi Murakami's Gallery at Central and I asked my friend Ollie to come along. It was hidden on Pedder St's Pedder Building a small narrow entrance and up the lifts we went. It was on the 7th Floor and while other exits on other floors we peeked and saw other galleries. As we went onto 7th Floor it was the GAGOSIAN GALLERY showcasing only Murkami's artworks. The guards were very cautious that we don't stay too close to the originals as we might spit, sneeze onto the masterpieces.

After viewing Takashi Murakami we decided to explore Pedder Building and discovered that 4 of the floors was an Art Gallery. There was a friendly staff that explained to us that there's numerous galleries in Central and if we followed along Hollywood Road we would encounter many small sized galleries. So the whole day we did a gallery hop on Central and realized the crazy amounts of art galleries located in the Central and Sheung Wan district. There was so many that we didn't get through all of it but we did manage to take some photos for some galleries. Some of them were fairly strict on photography while others were more friendly and encourage photo taking.

Vik Muniz was on of the first artist we discovered in this gallery hop and he tears pieces of paper from art, fashion and news magazine and turn into collages. At first I thought it wasn't that special but the messages and images he torns and pastes on to the work reflects on the subject and the artwork itself which I think really spoke for itself up close and it felt really personal.

From then on we continued to other galleries discovering fun and inspiring artworks hanging and waiting to be sold by the rich in Hong Kong.
